Effective leadership requires the combination of highly developed cognitive skills, a broad base of knowledge and the prudent application of both to solve a business problem. Yet leadership is challenged especially in the face of an ever evolving technology landscape where innovations and disruptions are prevalent and the markets and business priorities are ever changing.

Coming of age, project management methodologies have also evolved to adapt and deliver agility and dynamism. The time-to- market and execution speed also has undergone major revisions with products being launched with essential features and then evolving to suit market needs. Customers today expect to see the product/features immediately rather than waiting till the product cycle is complete. In comes the Agile project methodology which delivers one feature/user story at a time and builds the product incrementally.

This requires even leadership to be dynamic and not go by a pre-set school book approach. It is more inclined towards, innovation, digitization, and real time analytics to be able to take quicker decisions with long sightedness and the ability to add business value and help business compete in a rapidly changing environment. It also leverages the XaaS option which provides an expeditious way to implement a project by outsourcing some of the required services to domain experts.

Examples of Topics:

  1. Example of practicing leadership in Startup projects.
  2. How Project Management leadership can be more effective by driving innovation?
  3. How analytics help leadership in taking decisions in extremely dynamic projects?
  4. Future of Leadership in agile projects?
  5. Leadership in agile projects

Accelerating a nation's economic growth requires vision, planning and of course effective leadership. A great leader must not just have vision, but also fantastic problem solving abilities, the acumen to think on his/her feet and the determination to simply get things done. In this era of great economic and social changes, the biggest leadership challenge is to anticipate change, stay focused and achieve results.

The present Indian government has laid out a grand vision for India. Initiatives such as Swacch Bharat, Make in India, Skilling India and Digital India lay the groundwork for encouraging economic changes. India's business houses have welcomed these policies with open arms. However given the geographic and social complexities of the nation, implementation will prove to be a challenge.

Project management methodologies can provide the critical framework needed for the success of these visionary programs. Dynamic leaders who are also skilled project professionals are the need of the hour. They must have the ability to translate the government's vision into projects that will help meet the nation's goal of economic growth. Above all, these must be projects that positively impact all the stakeholders - the individual, the organization and the nation at large.

Examples of Topics:

  1. Necessity and impact of Project Management and leadership in government projects
  2. Approach to leadership in major public projects
  3. Leadership styles, economic growth and success of e-Governance

Keywords: PM practices in varied cultures and millennial generation, Social media, mobile platform, instant messaging, gamification and chatbots

How effective project management leadership can leverage the diversity in culture, values, demography and millennial generation; leveraging technology/systems like social media, mobile platform, instant messaging & gamification etc. in project management

Leadership is a process more than a property. It is about leading in an increasingly frequent situation where the subordinates and/or the environment can be characterized as multicultural and diverse. Multicultural project management leaders need to be context sensitive. They need a broad interest and an eagerness to absorb new signals. Project Management guidelines emphasizes the fact that 'effective leadership inescapably starts with awareness'. Harmony involves cultural tolerance and sharing, including learning from and respecting other cultures.

I have shoes older than you! Here comes the millennials!

Wherever and whenever different generation's interacted, generational gap existed. Generational diversity at workplace is very healthy if dealt effectively. Project Management best practices suggest to adapt to changes in workforce with open mind and make leverage of available technology to keep in pace.

Example of Topics:

  1. How can Social Media be used effectively to handle generational diversity?
  2. Examples which depict as to why Leadership is a process and not a property.
  3. How an effective project management leader use his "Instant messaging" workforce contribute to project's success?

Keywords: Cost effectiveness / Competitive Edge / Resource Utilization, PM best practices, Processes and Techniques, Talent pool, Remote leadership for global projects, cross cultural teams

The economic liberalization suggests that India's emerging international competitive advantage--and the corresponding opportunities for multinational corporations--lies not in natural resource industries or low-skill, labor-intensive manufacturing (as in much of Asia), but in skill-intensive tradable services, as exemplified by software. India's virtual diamond in software, argue that this success will generalize to other knowledge-based services. As a result, India is likely to emerge in the short to medium term as the back office of global corporations and in the medium to long term as a leading provider of knowledge-based tradable services.

This gives an absolutely perfect opportunity to the Project Management Leadership to utilize the skilled talent effectively and efficiently by using technology to collaborate virtually and thereby ensuring project's success by implementing PM best practices & processes.

Example of Topics:

  1. What PM best practices can be used for effective resource utilization to ensure that right people are working on right project at the right time?
  2. How can effective leadership be practiced across global virtual teams?
  3. Example where a project is being made cost effective by putting PM Techniques to use.
