The project pioneered a self-help based e governance model to bring technology to serve the poor. She has held global assignments in Montpellier, Paris, Somers, and Poughkeepsie. Her work experience includes being a VP - Brand Advocate z/i/p Series, VP - WW Manufacturing i/ p Series, VP - Demand/ Supply Planning, and Director for Server Supply Chain Operations, Manufacturing & Strategy. She has also worked as an Executive Assistant to the Senior Vice President and Group Executive, Server Group. In November 2006, Sophie served as Vice President, Worldwide Engineering, Integrated Supply Chain, where she was responsible for driving quality and performance - both at the suppliers' locations and IBM Manufacturing sites. She relocated to Hong Kong in August, 2007 and then to Somers, NY in August 2009. In April 2011, she joined GTS as the Public Sector SO Delivery VP. As the DC India Leader, Sophie is currently located in Bangalore, India.

In Sardar Sarovar Project, work involved was designing, preparation of tenders and finalization thereof and supervision and execution of construction of Hydro Power Station (5 x 50 MW and 6 x 200 MW) and also erection of 400 KV Gas Insulated Switchgear. During the tenure at Sardar Sarovar, elevated to the post of Chief Engineer in 1997.

Since October 2000, worked as Member (Tech) in Gujarat Electricity Board looking Transmission, Distribution and Generation and from April 2005, workied as Director (Tech) in Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. and was holding additional charge of Managing Director, GSECL for 2 1/2 years. I have retired as Director (Tech) from GUVNL on 30th Sept. 2011.

He has been responsible for the successful implementation of the prestigious Pan African e-Network Project, linking 48 countries of the African continent to India, for Tele-education and Telemedicine.

He has been actively involved in the activities of IETE (Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers), particularly the Mumbai Chapter and has held positions of Hon. Treasurer, Secretary and vice Chairman. He has been a Visiting faculty on Advanced Mobile Communications systems, and Business of Telecom Management with various institutions. He is also a Director on Boards of the various other companies.

Before taking over as Chairman & Managing Director in December, 2011, he was Director(Technical) on the Board of TCIL.

He started his carrier as a Lecturer in PSG College of Technology and gained more than 12 years of experience in the Metallurgical Industries in various capacities which includes Technical Development Manager, Process Re engineering Consultant, etc. During this period he did Project Management for erection and commissioning of couple of steel foundries in India and Malaysia. He had handled couple of Projects of Innovation like "Building Treatment vessel for Pure Magnesium impregnation in molten SG Iron", "Building Fully mechanized steel foundries", etc.

Shankar has more than fourteen years of International experience which includes nine years in Malaysia and five years in the USA. On his return to India in 2003 he joined Wipro. He started his career in Wipro as a Project Manager performed various roles which include Program Manager, Delivery Manager, Head of Center of Excellence for SAP, Principal consultant, etc. During his tenure in Wipro he carried out multiple projects in Innovation. One of them is "QuickStart" which is a SAP solution for CPG Industries in India by which SAP can be implemented in 60 days ( in general SAP implementations take a minimum of 11 months. This Innovation brought in 55% savings of cost and time to customers and 45% savings of cost to Wipro.

Dr. Chowdhury has been the recipient of numerous awards, and his special areas of interest are innovation, 3D, eGovernance, democratization of innovation, virtual product development and virtual manufacturing, PLM, the 3D experience universe, big data analytics and 'Technology Enabled Business Process Improvement", criminal intelligence system, cyber crime & cyber security, leveraging offset, smart grid , smart city and 3DEXPERIENCity. He is also considered a pioneer in ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) and BPR (Business Process Reengineering) movement in India. He has conducted extensive research on EAM, ERP, BPR, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), WCM (World Class Manufacturing Practices), eGovernance , IT Driven Business Transformation and Change Management related issues, covering more than 500 corporate, defense, utility and public sector organizations. As Secretary to Government of Maharashtra over the last few years, he has been instrumental in successfully leading multiple large initiatives like implementation of UID and Financial Inclusion, Direct Benefit Transfer, e-Office implementation, e-Tendering, implementation of State e-Governance Policy, focus on Accessibility and localization, Training and Capacity building in e-Governance, delivery of e-Services to citizens, implementation of Common Service Centers to ensure citizen services are available at the doorsteps of citizens and implementation of Govt. cloud. Under his leadership, the State Government has been rated as a leader in National e-Readiness Surveys of Govt. of India and has received more than 60 national and international awards for e-Governance in the last 2 years, including the prestigious National Award for Innovation in UID being conferred on him by the Hon. Prime Minister in 2012.

He is also a prolific writer and has written numerous articles and papers on e-Governance, including the much acclaimed paper titled 'e-Gov 0.0 - the fundamentals of e-Governance'.

He has done his Masters in Statistics and Ph.D. in Quantitative Genetics. He also have M.Phil. Degree in 'Population & Development' which he obtained as UNFPA fellow. He also has been trained at Economic Development of India of World Bank and at George Washington University.
