Project Management in e-Governance
Bangalore, India
8 - 9 September 2011
Harness the power of Project Management in e-Governance

What is e-Governance?
e-Governance is gaining popularity as the efficient new way of delivering public services. This technology-driven method changes not just the way a service is delivered but also opens new avenues of communication between the government and the citizens. While e-Governance has the potential of enabling huge savings in costs, its implementation is still a challenging task. It is imperative that all inter-related e-Governance projects are properly planned, integrated, executed, controlled and closed, so that the desired results can be achieved in the chosen time frame.

e-Governance in India
The National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) of Indian Government seeks to lay the foundation and provide the impetus for long-term growth of e-Governance within the country. The plan seeks to create the right governance and institutional mechanisms, set up the core infrastructure and policies and implement a number of Mission Mode Projects at the centre, state and integrated service levels to create a citizen-centric and business-centric environment for governance.

National Institute for Smart Government (NISG) in association with Project Management Institute (PMI), a global not-for-profit association established to promote the discipline of Project Management, are jointly organizing India's first conference on "Project Management in e-Governance" on 8th and 9th of September at Hotel Lalit Ashok in Bengaluru. This event will run parallel to the PMI India National Conference being held at the same venue between 8-10 September 2011.

The need for such a conference
Adoption and usage of Project Management practices is critical and have proven to deliver more efficient and optimal utilization of resources. However, there are numerous sector-specific challenges like the change-management and transformational aspects of e-Government programmes which makes it more complex and further necessitates the adoption of Project Management practices. The conference highlights the various ways in which Project Management can enhance operational efficiency across various sectors.

Objective of the conference
The "Project Management in e-Governance" conference will deliberate to what extent Project Management practices have contributed to the successful deployment and implementation of e-Government projects in India. It will also identify the problems faced during implementation of projects in public sectors, and explore specific challenges of Project Management in e-Governance.
